We beat the big brother to it, but we were on the verge of grabbing this one. It’s fantastic and may be stored in a variety of places.

The business is fantastic, and they’ve been quick to respond to any issues we’ve had concerning our grill. We’ve smoked a few things on it since then.

As I previously said, the Traegar infomercial sparked my interest in finding a pellet barbecue. When we originally began searching, this seemed to check all the criteria. It’s funny how the distinctions become apparent if you truly start looking into it.

What we enjoy

Great hopper that can carry a lot of stuff. It’s not very huge and can accommodate two persons.

What we didn’t care for

Because it’s a manual dial, you won’t be able to fine-tune your heat control. When you want to smoke anything all day, a 20-degree difference seems like a big deal.

Pellet Grills Have a Long History

Pellet grills seem to be a magical beast. It’s a game changer in grilling/smoking to be able to set a temperature on a grill and not have to constantly watch it.

I’m not sure whether pellet grills will ever be able to compete with normal grills only on the basis of pricing.

You can still acquire a small charcoal barbecue for about $50 at your local Walmart. The cheapest pellet barbecue costs more than $500, and they’re not as common as charcoal or gas grills.

Pellet grills are comparable to gas grills in that they can be started fast, but they have the taste of charcoal barbecues.

Aside from the greater price, the major disadvantage of pellet grills is the lack of searing capacity. Because pellet grills use indirect heat, flame broiling a burger or steak is difficult.

The Camp Chef grill has solved this problem by including a side searing burner on certain versions. I don’t mind not being able to sear since I like the taste of smoking at lower temps.

I immediately discovered that there are several types and that they have been around since 1988.

Allow me to restate that.

Traegar has been in business since 1988, when they introduced the pellet grill. Pellet grills were created in the same way as pellet stoves, but with different pellets.

Traegar patented the pellet grilling technology, therefore until the patent expired in 2006, there was no competition.

Right now, the most popular stories are

According to Wikipedia, there were just a few pellet grill producers in 2008, but by 2014, there were over 27.

The advantage of marketplace competition is that it continually improves a product by adding new features and, in most cases, lower prices. I began researching grill costs and discovered that the Traegar mentioned on the infomercial was priced between $500 and $800.

When I compared that to the Oklahoma Joe, which cost $429, I realized I needed to learn more about the various brands before making such a large purchase.

Because I generally cook for two people, I narrowed my search to pellet grills around $1000 and of a smaller size. Memphis Grills were ruled out at that price point, but from what I’ve heard, they’re well worth it if money isn’t an issue.

Yoder, Fast Eddy, and Mak1, all of which sell for over $1000, are also outstanding grills. So the Traegar, Louisiana Grills, Camp Chef, Green Mountain Grills, and the Rec Tec pellet grill were among my options.

What Are Pellet Grills and How Do They Work?

Since they created the pellet grill, Traegar Grills’ website does an excellent job of explaining how it works. An auger feeds pellets from the pellet box to the grill box, where they are burnt, in a pellet grill.

The pellet movement is controlled by an electronic controller, and the temperature is maintained by an intermittently running fan. The temperature of certain earlier pellet grills could only be controlled by a 50-75 degree variation.

Grills today are within 5 degrees of each other. A computerized controller, robust metal structure, and a convection fan that circulates air in the cooking chamber are found in almost all pellet grills. All of the grills listed above have these attributes, albeit the thickness of the metal, whether it’s powder coated or stainless steel, the size of the grilling surface, and the kind of digital controller vary. You could also be thinking about purchasing a grill gate, which we discuss here.

Which Pellet Grill Did We Select?

Originally, I planned on getting the smaller Green Mountain Grill Davy Crockett since the pricing point for the amenities was unbeatable.

Then we went to a nearby patio company that specialized in outdoor living, including patio sets, awnings, and outdoor kitchen settings, to view the grill.

I saw the Green Mountain Grill Davy Crockett when I entered the outdoor cooking department. I began questioning the salesman about it and their thoughts on it (they also had several other types of grills).

She said that her husband had both the bigger version and a Green Egg, and that after he obtained the Green Mountain Grill, he only used it for grilling.

Then I realized that they had the Daniel Boone and Jim Bowie GMG grills, which were both bigger versions. She then asked her spouse to respond to the remainder of my questions. I was doubtful about the grill’s internet functionality, but he claimed to use it often.

He’d start the grill while driving home from work, and it’d be ready to use by the time he arrived home. He also said that he would sometimes need to go to the grocery store while smoking and that he appreciated being able to monitor things while he was gone.

He said how satisfied he was with GMG’s customer service as the owner of a patio business with several different brands of grills. As I became more convinced that I had selected my grill, I asked my wife which one she preferred. We chose the Daniel Boone with WIFI since it seemed to be the greatest match for our requirements.

I’ve spent my whole childhood in Florida and was used to barbecue consisting mostly of shredded pig, ribs, and a sweet BBQ sauce.

My wife is from Texas, and I recall one of the first times we went to a local BBQ joint and she complained about how bad it was. Until that time, I had never considered how excellent or bad the neighborhood BBQ was.

I was on my way to Austin to meet her family a year later. We went to a local BBQ establishment, the name of which escapes me, and I was blown away by how tasty the pork was.

I’d never tried smoked brisket before that fateful day, and it was the most delectable cut of beef I’d ever encountered. I know it seems crazy, but you can’t express the flavor that overwhelms your taste senses until you’ve experienced authentic Texas style smoked brisket.

That, coupled with the smoked sausage, was genuinely life-changing, since I couldn’t handle the local BBQ after I returned to Florida.

I was preoccupied with figuring out how to smoke a brisket correctly. However, I was scared by the aura around brisket smoking. Then life got in the way, and it was pushed on the back burner.

Several Years Have Passed

I was eager to locate the greatest barbecue that I could use for both grilling and smoking. I was finally ready to try my hand at brisket for the first time.

What I discovered was that there are smokers and grills, but very few options for combining the two.

When I went to the local Lowes, I discovered an Oklahoma Joe combination grill. A propane gas barbecue, a charcoal grill, and an offset smoker box were all included. This thing was massive, and despite my reservations about how enormous it was for a family of two, I had pretty well decided that I would be buying it shortly.

Then one fateful Sunday, I switched on the television and began to browse through the channels. I came to a halt when I saw a lady standing in front of an odd-looking grill.

It turned out I was watching a Traegar ad at the moment, and it was the first time I’d ever heard of a pellet barbecue.

This grill, according to the lady, can accomplish a variety of things:

  • Smoke
  • Grill
  • Sear
  • Bake

Who in their right mind would bake on a grill?

For at least an hour, I was enthralled by this infomercial. It seemed too wonderful to be true what they were saying about this grill.

You can set it and forget it. temperature capability, allowing you to smoke without worrying about the flames growing too hot or cold?

I was compelled to discover more. As a side note, I have a short attention span, therefore while I’m watching TV, I’m simultaneously on my laptop studying or reading any and all subjects. So, while watching this advertisement, I began looking up pellet grills on the internet.

You can add a grill cover to many of the grills, but if you need a nicer one, we investigated grill covers that you can look at.
